Mission Statement

The A. Philip Randolph Institute Western Region advances social, economic, and racial justice by empowering workers, strengthening communities, and expanding civic participation across the western United States. As a regional hub within the broader APRI network, we bring together labor unions, community organizations, youth leaders, and public institutions to build collective power and create lasting change.

We champion workers’ rights and economic opportunity through education, training, and leadership development programs that prepare individuals for quality jobs, career advancement, and civic leadership. Our initiatives support working families by promoting fair wages, safe workplaces, equitable access to education and training, and pathways into union careers that provide stability and dignity.

We also play a critical role in strengthening democracy. Through year‑round voter engagement, civic education, and community mobilization, we work to ensure that every voice is heard and every community has the tools to participate fully in the democratic process. Our outreach centers the needs of historically marginalized communities, including Black, Latino, Indigenous, immigrant, and low‑income workers across the western region.

In addition to direct programming, we serve as a bridge between labor and community partners—facilitating coalitions, supporting local chapters, and amplifying grassroots campaigns that advance racial equity, economic justice, and workers’ rights. Whether addressing workplace discrimination, advocating for fair housing, expanding access to healthcare, or supporting youth leadership, we work collaboratively to build stronger, more resilient communities.

Guided by the legacy of A. Philip Randolph—one of America’s most influential labor and civil rights leaders—we remain committed to creating pathways that uplift working families and ensure dignity, opportunity, and justice for all. Our work continues his vision of a society where economic security, racial equality, and democratic participation are not privileges, but fundamental rights.
